Cambia Health Foundation Partners with Neighborcare Health through a $200,000 Grant for New Clinic

Meridian Center for Health will integrate services for Seattle's underserved, low-income north end residents.

Seattle, Wash. – Seattle’s north end is home to the city’s largest segment of low-income residents, yet it lacks adequate resources to meet community health needs. Now, Cambia Health Foundation is helping Neighborcare Health to undertake a project to change that, with a grant of $200,000 toward the construction of the new Meridian Center for Health, a 44,000-square-foot facility that will provide a fully integrated health care home for at least 14,000 people annually.

The Meridian Center for Health will be a first-of-its-kind model to provide primary medical services, including wellness and preventative care fully integrated with public health, child development, housing and employment services. It will preserve care currently provided to 7,000 individuals at Neighborcare Health’s Greenwood Medical Clinic and Public Health’s North Public Health Center, and increase access for an additional 7,000 residents. It will also establish the only safety net dental clinic in the entire north end of the city.

“Even under the Affordable Care Act, we anticipate that Neighborcare Health will continue to serve large numbers of uninsured patients,” explained Mark Secord, Executive Director. “With this new center, we have an exceptional opportunity to increase capacity to reach our most vulnerable neighbors. The Cambia Health Foundation grant moves us yet one step closer to transforming health care in the north end and improving the lives of thousands of area residents.”

“We are committed to partnerships that will make our health care system more person-focused and economically sustainable,” said Steve Lesky of Cambia Health Foundation. When we learned of the great need in north end Seattle – and Neighborcare Health’s plan to create a state-of-the-art, integrated clinic to serve that need – we were compelled to help ensure its success.”

Set to break ground this fall, the new Meridian Center for Health will be built close to Northgate Mall at North 105th Street and Meridian and plans to begin serving patients in fall 2015.
